About the Belgian Malinois

The Belgian Malinois was named after the Belgian city of Malines, and is one of four Belgian sheepdog breeds. The Malinois came about in the late 1800’s and nearly suffered extinction around the time World War 1 broke out. Now they (along with the German Shepherd) are looked at as the premier canine for military work and law enforcement. If the German Shepherd is considered the Rolls Royce of the dog world, then the Malinois can only be described as the Lamborghini.

They are energetic, bright, enthusiastic and very obedient. Typically they are a more energetic breed than the German Shepherd, but are just as happy relaxing and taking it easy until it is time to work. Physically the Belgian Malinois is a medium to large breed with a square body. They are strong, extremely powerful for their size, and very agile.
